YOU SHOULD NOT RINSE YOUR MOUTH AFTER BRUSHING- DO THIS INSTEAD.

I know that many people, myself included, are guilty of rinsing after brushing. In Fact I'm pretty sure we were told that was the correct way to wash our mouths. Well I'm happy to bring this to you attention. Please read further.

1. You should spit out and not rinse your mouth after brushing as you might be putting your oral health at risk.

2. Rinsing after brushing makes you prone to developing tooth decay

3. Rinsing after brushing washes away the protective fluoride left behind by brushing.

What is Fluoride

Fluoride is the mineral in your bone and teeth, it is used to strengthen your enamel and prevent tooth decay/cavities.

Other benefits of fluoride include;

Prevention of the growth of harmful oral bacteria

Hinders the loss of minerals from your tooth enamel

It revitalises weakened tooth enamel

Water and fluoride shouldn't mix, especially after brushing because it diminishes the oral benefits you will get from brushing your teeth.

If you will not feel orally comfortable without rinsing your mouth with water, try using a little toothpaste before brushing so you don't get a prominent after taste.

There have been some publications online and in movies that fluoride is bad for you, well it's not completely false. Fluoride can only be bad for your teeth when you consume too much of it. That's why it's advised to use little toothpaste before brushing.
